Eating in Greece

Eating in Greece

As we journeyed through Greece we also ate a lot of amazing food. We were worried before we left that Jamison, who is very picky, would not be able to eat anything, but alas, you can get grilled plain meat pretty much everywhere. Here are some of our favorite places.

Mavro Provato – Athens – If you are looking for a great local places where the locals and not tourists go then run, don’t walk, here. We came here on our last night in Athens and good thing because otherwise we might not have eaten anywhere else. Very reasonably priced food, unique and amazingly delicious.

O Thanasis – Athens – Great restaurant, or counter, for traditional Greek Gyros. Stopped here for a quick bite while site-seeing and definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

Lithos – Athens – This is a sit-down place we loved having dinner at. Traditional food, great service and great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Lukumades – Athens – Amazing little Greek desserts, but we’d recommend going simple in terms of toppings lest you get something too sweet.

Little Kook – Athens – Fun dessert place themed like Mary Poppins with extremely large and sweet desserts. I think we all gained a couple pounds at this one location alone.

Aiolos Tavern – Nafplio – On our day trip away from Athens we had dinner here. The food was amazing and the wine was delicious. We really enjoyed this restaurant and would highly recommend it if visiting Nafplio.

Taverna Vakhos – Delphi – Amazing view from this restaurant. Get here early and sit by a window. The food was very good, including the house wine!

Meteoron Panorama – Meteora/Kalambaka – Not the cheapest meal, but they specialize in grilled steaks and they are worth the money! We’ve tried to highlight restaurants that have special things to offer and this one definitely had unique food options that were great.

Meze Meze – Litochoro – Great little restaurant in this small town with a unique take on traditional meals, which was much appreciated as we progressed into our trip. One can only eat so much of the same recipe.

Gavalas Winery – Santorini – Came recommended from our concierge as a family-owned off-the-beaten path winery. It did not disappoint. Highly recommend coming here for a tasting.

Metaxy Mas Tavern – Santorini – Not in the main part of the island, but if you are driving around, this place had great good and reasonable prices, which are hard to find in the tourist parts of Santorini.
